O ator se inspira na boa ação de Angelina Jolie e Brad Pitt para se dedicar a trabalhos humanitários. Em plenos 38 anos, ele que acaba de terminar as filmagens do documentário Our Safari Diary in South Africa, tem planos de seguir os passos do casal e se envolver em serviços comunitários. Em entrevista à revista Closer, Slater afirma que a filantropia tem feito bem a ele. "Fazer trabalhos de caridade é uma coisa para mim tanto emocional quanto mentalmente", diz o ator. "Parabenizo o trabalho que Angelina e Brad tem feito. Já estive na África e sei como essas coisas acontecem", complementa.
